New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt
When the first season of PSG ended, I had just turned 13, and had just started browsing /a/. I remember the spam the board received when the ending hit, and me being perplexed at why this anime board is shitposting so much about a western looking cartoon. It didn't take me long until I watched it myself, probably way too young, in 2012 when I started high school. The South Park segment stuck out at the time because I loved South Park in middle school... To 13 year old me, this was one of the most chaotic, edgy and lolsorandum things I've ever watched, so naturally I loved it! Anyway I've also been waiting for a sequel, for 13 years instead of 15...
Here we are in 2025, a lot of things have changed including the Current Climate. A lot of people seemed to be worried the anime will be very sanitized, but I honestly didn't have too much fear. I think the show managed to keep a certain level of edginess. This time around I opted out for the sub instead of the dub, because the new dub didn't hit the same (I did like the angel brothers cringe zoomer speak though, it will age badly in just about 2 months or less but it'll be a funny time capsule). I have a couple of grievances, for example the dialogue seems just a bit more dumbed down than what I remember, but hold your horses, my frame of reference is 14 year old Cabbage. The show is still dumb and chaotic fun, just the way I remember it. The show is extremely reference heavy and the when the budget is being saved you can tell, but honestly at this point I see this as the Gainax/Trigger animation signature and nothing else. I remember not being a huge fan of Scanty and Kneesocks yet this time around, they've become my favourites. I loved all the episodes focusing on them, especially their sisterly bond... I'm such a wimp, anything to do with sisterly love and I'm immediately sold!!! I also really liked the Conan the Barbarian section of the 11th episode. The angel brothers were a good addition, and what I love the most about them are their names... and the transformation sequence. Speaking of which, my biggest gripe was the lack of transformation sequences!!! It was the most iconic part and they shortened each and every one!!!
All in all this is a proper sequel, a bit updated on the humor to fit with into the world that's 15 years older, but it doesn't feel like it's trying to ride on the coattails of its former self.
