Audition

Ryu Murakami

book

Audition is a short thriller that I don't even remember dling on my ereader but here we are! Because it's a thriller, I really don't want to spoil anything so I'll just talk about the general vibe. I like that the main character feels very human. He really loves to yap about things, and his introspection is very high at times. Despite that he falls for the weakness of the flesh and is guided by his penis, as is expected. The death of his wife whom he cheated on constantly made him abstain from relationships for 7 years - I really appreciated these types of details about his character. It really sells you the story, upper middle class man that enjoys everything his position in society allows him to. I enjoyed the tension and the foreshadowing. Despite what some people say I think the foreshadowing is sufficient and not lacking. I think Asami as a character might have been lacking a bit and maybe the ending could've used an extra chapter. All in all a fun thriller, although I prefer Piercing if you want to read Murakami's tension filled and gory stories.
