The Fable
The only anime in the past two seasons that I've been looking forwards to on the regular. Now, it is true the pacing was a bit slow, but honestly it worked perfectly in a weekly format (so the exact opposite of the issue I have with manga usually lmfao). Also, this is an adaptation and I'd advise you to probably just go read the manga because god knows when (if...) the second season will be out.
The Fable is a yakuza type story, where the main character is an extraordinary assassin forced to be jobless for a year and basically go into hiding and assume a new identity under the protection of a yakuza group he's affiliated with. Him and his partner have to pretend to be siblings while assuming normal lives for a year. Of course things won't be so simple and hijinks and mysteries will ensue.
Let's get things straight, the animation is pretty horrible. Luckily they manage to avoid non-stop QUALITY with the power of zoom ins on talking faces and dialogue heavy scenes, but yeah it's nothing to write home about. However the humor, voice acting, dialogue, fun story and great characters do a LOT to carry this anime and make it worth watching.
The characters are what truly makes this. The main character, Satou, is a bit 'tistic. He sounds incredibly deadpan, does not do well with social interactions, has an obsession with an extremely cheesy comedian etc. Honestly one of my favourite male main characters in a long while. His partner, Youko, who does a lot better socially, is also amazing. She has an obsession with bullying drunk men and making them suffer, which I, frankly, admire. They're just such a good duo for a show like this. I also really loved both of their voice acting despite hearing a lot of complaints... Maybe I'm just too biased towards yakuza themed half comedy/half dramas? I would watch 500 episodes of this.
