January 5 star Gacha Overview
The new 5 star came out recently... I love that this time, there's an actual consistent theme going on. One of the sets is a moth, and the other is like a reaper but with a twist, she's got a lantern on her "scythe" and she's guiding the moth to her death! Neat concept and I think the execution is decent too. It's pretty gacha/mmo-ish looking though, I was hoping for a more classic execution of the legendary fantasy and european fantasy tags that the sets have. The moth has a fuzzy butt as a part of the dress and I really like her flats, however I'm not too obsessed with the moth set because I feel like I already have similar items in my wardrobe? The dress also kinda looks like diapers from the back. The reaper set has the better dress out of the two even though I think the dress is kind of a mess as well.
Once again they're going with a feather theme around the chest, along with the chest modesty piece which I'm a bit tired of. Sometimes they're fine with slight cleavage, sometimes clearly not... I don't like it here. What I do like about the dress is the lower than usual waist and the bottom section. The dress dyes really well and it looks pretty badass in full black when that bottom part isn't as shiny. That would cost too much to roll on though so I'll be passing. The reaper set also comes with these neat low wings, which they haven't included in the main promo image? The skull piece hat and the "scythe" are cool as well, and the scythe is soooo similar to the Dark Side weapon skin for berserkers from TERA.
The other stuff I really like are the gloves from the moth set, they're actually just a gradient skin color piece with big thick claws, and I LOVE claws so missing out on this piece is giving me fomo. Shame I didn't get it with my free rolls, but I got the moth antennae and the reaper hair. The reaper hair is actually one of the items I love the most about this gacha so yay, at least something nice!!
I'll be patiently waiting for the 6 star gacha announcement, especially on global because last year the early Feb 6 star (known to be the Lunar New Year gacha that is hyped up) was actually the 6 star from the year before instead of the one that released on sg/my, which had the community angryyyyyy. This means that this year we once again might get the set from last year if the pattern continues. The reasons behind this decision are a complete mystery, and there's many tinfoils going around...
Even though I'm skipping the current gacha, I'm pumping out so many new outfits because LM has released my favourite background so far. It seems like they're FINALLY beginning to figure out how to do better lighting, and I pray a custom lighting system becomes a thing soon. That's one thing I think Shining Nikki has over LM.
Anyway, the lighting is so NICE. The usual black hair dye that looks grey and washed looks pure black here, so this bg is perfect for darker outfits with a high contrast. Pearly white skin gets a bit of a pink glow and some depth to it, so your characters don't look like spooky ghosts, I've really been having fun with it... It also made me dust off some of my favourite 6 star dresses that I haven't used in a while as seen in the bottom image. Also, I know it's funny that I went crazy over a bg and then I proceed to blur the everloving hell out of it. At this point I get bgs only if I really love the lighting lmao.
