Tech illiterates and new gacha
When the new update hit last week, some things broke. It's not really common for this game to have gamebreaking bugs or network related issues that don't let people access the game. I'd say it's a once a year ordeal, and each time it happens it affects a small percentage of players. I remember when I started playing 2 years ago there was an issue with some apple users not being able to log in, then a year ago there was a 2-3 day issue that was geolocation related so you could easily bypass it with a VPN and play anyway, and this year the issue seems to have hit android and (some?) PC users, and I think it was also network related.
I'd say that's not so bad for an online game that's 70gb at this point. In every online game that I played over the years, I don't think there was a single one that didn't have issues. In fact I'd go so far to say that so many of these games had known issues and were unplayable for some people by default, and things would break on a weekly basis lmao. I'm not saying this should be the standard, but you learn to jump through hoops and to troubleshoot - and a lot of the times you can bypass whatever issue you're having. Computers and networks are fucking stupid, it's not easy to have everything work for everyone at all times. It's really not!
Each time an issue like this happens, the affected playerbase freaks out, naturally. But what pisses me off are the people that don't bother testing or finding a solution. There was one particular user that came in to complain right away, which is good, we need to make the issues known! I sympathized with her and asked her if she had used a vpn to try and see if its a location issue like last year. The issue this time around was that she could get ingame and log in - but things wouldn't load properly so she would be missing half of the features the game offers, thus being unable to complete her dailies. Sometimes she couldn't even log in and the game would say there's a server problem. CLEARLY the issue is network (and potentially location) based and the game is struggling to download data and communicate with the servers. After telling her to try a VPN she "tried it, it worked for a bit but didn't". Ok so that's a step forward. She disappears, so we can't even help her properly. She comes back a day later, still complaining. People give her so many suggestions, she doesn't really respond to them, she's venting about the support not doing their job and about how pissed she is they're not talking about her issue on the game's official social media accounts (lol??? they posted a notice on the login screen about fixing it, what the fuck else do you want lmao). A few days pass. At this point it seems that most of the people that couldn't log in didn't have this issue anymore (or have fixed it on their own) because nobody else is talking about it. She's still having the issue. Ok have you tried Steam? She already plays through Steam and it doesn't work. Ok people that had the issue reported they fixed it by playing through the Epic client, have you tried that? No, she doesn't have an epic account (??? just make it) but her friend said epic works. Ok??? There's your fix then????? So what HAS she tried. Oh, she tried logging through her wifi, her phone network, her grandmas network... Wow amazing, she must have broken a proper sweat doing all that troubleshooting. ????????????????????????????????????? So she found a solution earlier (VPN) refused to experiment a bit with it, she knows the game works through epic but refuses to make an account...??? Someone suggested a few days in if she has a trusted friend that plays to get them to log into her account and do dailies for her and she says she didn't think the issue would last so long to even consider the option. Dude, just do it right away???????? I'm genuinely baffled. People that haven't been paying attention to her complaining even suggested vms and emulators, because the way she complained made it sound like she exhausted all of her options but all she did was swap a few networks......... What absolutely made me want to smash my head through a wall hormonal teenage boy style was when she proclaimed she's so scared she might completely lose her account. Girl, HOW. HOW. OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD.
Yes the game support kinda sucks. That's just a wonderful perk of being a global version of a chinese game that doesn't even bring in the fraction of the money china does. It sucks, it really does, but you also have to learn to troubleshoot at least a bit!!!! Whatever game you play, or software you use, things will inevitably break! Sitting on your ass complaining about how the support isn't coddling you enough isn't going to solve anything! And frankly, even though the 1 on 1 support sucks in the terms of perfect feedback if your issue isn't payment related, bugs always get fixed when you report them! They do seem to have competent devs so like.... All you can do is wait and try to bypass the issue yourself while they work on it.
Right I also wanted to mention the new gacha teaser. It's friday so all we get is an image that vaguely hints the theme, which appears to be phoenix/fire related. I'm praying for it to be chinese themed so that I can skip and save even more. Usually the december 6 star gacha absolutely slaps so if I skip this one I'll have so much saved up!!
